Discover your Scottish ancestor among millions of records covering almost 400 years of births and baptisms. Find their name and date of birth as well as their place of baptism.
Each record contains a transcript of original sources. The amount of information contained varies but you can find out the following about your ancestor:
Name
Place of baptism
Date of baptism
Name of father
Name of mother (including maiden name)
There are millions of records of births from across Scotland between the years 1564 – 1950. These are not intended to be an exhaustive collection of births and baptisms. Some places are not covered and the date ranges vary from location to location.
The transcript refers to film numbers and batch numbers. Both these reference numbers refer to material held in the Family Research Library. Film numbers refer to individual microfilms, often containing copies of original documents held at a variety of repositories including courthouses, churches etc. Batch numbers refer to information grouped according to record type. Batch numbers can cover multiple Film numbers.
You can find out more about both batch and film numbers in the Family History Library Catalogue on the FamilySearch website (see useful links). Findmypast has a “People with the same last name on this search” function to find related records in the same batch and/ or film. This function can also uncover members of the same family in the same original source. It will sometimes uncover additional entries for the same person with slightly differing information.
