The survey of St Matthew’s cemetery and columbarium in Sherwood in Brisbane was originally undertaken by the Queensland Family History Society in 1979. This transcript is based on that original work with later monuments added to bring the inscriptions up to November 1995.
A church has stood on the site since around 1869 but the current church and graveyard date from 1923.
The transcript covers both the inscriptions on the gravestones and those on the columbarium wall marking those who were cremated.
The transcript also contains a map of the graveyard with all locations clearly marked.

All search results will bring you straight to the page on which the word or group of words your were looking for has been found. We’ve included a few tips to help you with this Text search feature.
Text search is a direct search only. This means that you will need to search for the exact word or phrase that you are looking for. It will not pick up variations in spelling.
To search for your ancestor by name you will need to search for the name as it appears in the book. So if your ancestor was called Bobby, you should search for Robert or Peggy would be Margaret and so on.
You can use inverted commas to group together full names.
Please note that in dates the month will be abbreviated so instead of searching for August 1917 you would search for Aug 1956.
