The Calendar of the Registers of Apprentices of the City of Gloucester 1595-1700 was edited by Jill Barlow, MA, and includes the names of almost 5,000 apprentices along with their fathers and masters. The calendar was published by The Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society. In this version, Findmypast has digitised the text through optical character recognition (OCR), which allows you to search the text for your ancestor’s name or a keyword, such as your ancestor’s trade.
The document was created from apprenticeship registers found in the Gloucestershire Record Office. It is separated into five section. The introduction provides a historical background of the apprenticeship system in Gloucester and the conditions of apprenticeship. Next, the apprenticeship registers are separated into three sections by year range: 1595-1646, 1645-1668, and 1668-1700. A fifth section, the index, includes five appendixes and indexes of names, places, and trades.
