Archdeacon’s transcripts are copies of parish registers that were sent to the archdeacon. Prior to 1812, all copies of registers were sent to the archdeacon. After 1812, the copies were sent to the bishop and became known as the bishop’s transcripts.
The earliest records are from 1600. You will find volumes from Eaton St Andrew, the only thatched-roof church in Norwich, and volumes from St Margaret’s in Stratton Strawless, the church dates back to the 13th century. Norfolk borders Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Suffolk, and the North Sea.
The volumes recorded three life events: baptisms, marriages, and burials. For each event you will discover the following facts:
Baptisms
Marriages
Burials
The images were created from the original records held at the Norfolk Record Office. The imaging was completed by FamilySearch.
Findmypast holds a number of parish registers from across Norfolk. If you wish to search for your ancestor by name, use the links provided in the Useful links and resources section.
Once you select a volume you want to search, you can use the arrows on either side of the images to browse the book or you can use the image counter in the bottom, centre to skip ahead. For example, if the volume begins in 1600, but you want to look at 1750, skip ahead a hundred images.
