The records were transcribed from original parish records held at the Nottinghamshire Archives. Banns were announced in the local parish church three months before a couple were to be married. If the couple resided in two separate parishes, banns were announced in both parishes. The banns were announced on three separate Sundays within three months of the intended marriage date. This period of time allowed anyone to come forward with an objection to the marriage. The existence of a banns record does not confirm that the marriage took place.
